The Hopi Prophecy + the Power of an Embodied Voice

Severed Talking Heads

For years I’ve said that many of us move through the world like severed talking heads.

By that I mean we speak from the mind alone, disconnected from the body wisdom that brings our voices to life.

Most of us were never taught how to let our voices rise from the deep places.

From the ribs and pelvis.

From intuition and inner knowing.

From the ancient river of wisdom running through the physical body.

And I believe that disembodied voices create a disembodied world.

So when I first learned about the Hopi prophecy that I’m about to share with you, I felt shivers of recognition.

The kind where your soul whispers, “Yes. This rings true.”

The Hopi Prophecy

In northern Arizona there’s a great sandstone boulder known as Prophecy Rock.

It carries ancient petroglyphs and teachings passed through Hopi oral tradition for thousands of years.

This prophecy speaks of times of global upheaval. Times like right now. And it shows two distinct paths humanity can walk.

The Path of Profit

On the upper line there are small human stick figures with heads floating above their bodies.

Severed talking heads.

Hopi Elders describe this as the path of disconnection. Humans living from the mind alone, out of balance with Earth. Cut away from natural and spiritual law. Following materialism and forgetting their center.

This is called the path of profit.

Not healthy profit, but profiting at others’ expense.

Accumulating. Extracting.

Living out of harmony with creation.

This path becomes jagged, then abruptly stops.

A way of life that cannot continue.

The Path of Love

Just below there’s another line.

On this path we see a single Elder walking with a staff.

Their head is connected to their body, and they are hunched over, walking close to the Earth.

A wisdom keeper.

A reminder of humility and connection.

Corn grows beside this figure, a sacred Hopi symbol of nourishment, balance, and right relationship with life.

This is called the path of love.

Living with the Earth.

Caring for her and for one another.

Unlike the upper path, the path of love continues on.

It spirals around the rock, said to lead into a Fifth World.

A time of peace.

A Turning of the Ages

In Hopi tradition, and in many others, we are nearing the end of one world age and the dawn of another. Humanity stands at a crossroads.

Will we continue to float above our bodies and the Earth?

Or return to the path of love, connection, and embodied truth?
